I got to design the poster for MBM Camp in 2019 and 2020, It's great to be able to compare it to my work a year apart to see how my approach and skills have changed. As schools and most businesses were closed at the time, a stand alone poster wouldn't be as effective as previous years. I decided to make two images to be used on social media in a carousel, the first with the call to action and the second with more information. I also made a poster with the key information.
The reference for the biker is as always from the MBM archives. I wanted this poster to look like something that was clearly in Yellowknife, dirt jumps, short trees, blazing sun and lots of water. The colours are consistent with the 2019 poster but with a bit more to amp up the scene. I used a textured gradient throughout this project to add contrast and a rustic printed look.
These custom hats were a hit once the helmets came off. I again used photos of their campers and created silhouettes in Illustrator. We brainstormed mountain bike must-haves, and realized you don't need much other than water, helmet and the wilderness. The bright orange squirrel, "Bacon" the camp mascot who's always looking to nip a snack, stands out against the other iconography.
